    "Computer Hope"
    « on: February 21, 2013, 06:33:59 PM »
This site is based off of helping people. Not being rude. We need to make sure we're being polite and that people will want to come back with their issues.

This is unacceptable and very childish.

16:43 guest_18 Ok, my sound is working, but my mic is not. It says it is not plugged in. How do I fix this?
    16:43 Immental1200 Plug it in...
    16:43 patio
    16:43 guest_18 It is
    16:43 Immental1200 collapses in laughter

Immental1200 is a bad example of how we want to look as a site and team.

Let's just work to make sure people feel at home with their computer issues....give them Computer Hope :)

I agree. That is part of the reason I am not in the CH chat very frequently. It's either I sit there and say nothing, sit there and help somebody and end up having an argument with somebody else about how "wrong" my advice was, attempt to correct somebody saying something that is provably false or perhaps dangerous and then have an argument about that, or wait until I'm the only one offering advice at all and end up having to try to help 5 people simultaneously- to the detriment of whatever else I'm trying to do....

Then get occasionally told how bad my advice was hours later when the "smart people" show up again, as if I didn't have anything better to do with my time.
That said, the "log" segment above doesn't really provide a lot of context, and could be edited in some way. Not pointing fingers and saying it's Doctored, just that this sort of thing is difficult to backup outside of a more complete log.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Also the reason why I dont hang out in chat. But also its hard assisting people if 3 or more different subjects are being spoken at the same time and not have something important scroll off the screen, you then go to scroll up and its almost like a constant stream of info with others chats making it all a mess. I haven't hung out yet in CH chat channel yet, but on other chat channels elsewhere it was a mess and for the time donated out of my day I found that I didnt need the headache, (literally would get a headache IRL) and thats why I like the CH Forum better.  ;D

I tried helping in chat a few times when I first joined the forum and then again a year or so later. On each occasion I didn't care for the way I or others were treated. Lots of bad advice being given as well. My suggestion is to just post your questions on the forum.

Really, I don't know why we even have that chat. The "helpers" are rude, even to others who are trying to help. If we just get rid of it altogether, people will get actual help on the forums.

I agree that the chat could be disabled. Its easier to moderate a forum from trouble makers vs live chat. And while filters may be able to stop some profanity content etc, I haven't seen any that can filter out content that is bashing. Everyone who moderates the forums here are very good at keeping it a clean and professional atmosphere!  ;D

I avoided chiming in on this however it was a case of 2 people acting like 14 year old testoserone laden kids...
Both were warned in chat ...and one chose to make the above post.
In the exchange i observed 4 of the 5 symptoms that BC illustrated...
    Just so everyone knows.
The OP's intentions on this Topic are not the noble intentions you may be interpreting.
Not sure why my name was included as i was assisting another person at the time which originally was the goal of Chat...
