How do I decrypt the file and folder
« on: October 10, 2005, 01:12:52 AM »
Hi All,
I have a perculiar problem, I dont know how my folder and the files in the folder got encrypted.
Now I cannot view any of the files in that folder.
The message I get is as follows:
"Excel cannot access 'file.xls' The document may be read only or encrypted"
"Powerpoint was unable to open or save this document. Please ensure that you have access privileges to read or write the document and that it is not encrypted"
"User cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges"
I have the administrator rights to my system too, still it is not allowing me to decrypt.....
What can be the problem.....PLEASE ADVISE....

Thanks and Regards
Bradley

So are you saying that this started as soon as you had installed SP2 ?

What happens if you go to that folder , open it ....right click any Excel file , select properties, general tab , then down near the bottom in the attributes section ......click advanced ....is compress contents ticked ?

Are you able to remove SP2 for MS office ....to see if thats what did it .....because it sounds like that may be the problem .  Or another thing to try ,might be to use system restore to go back to just before you installed SP2 for MS office .....and see if that allows you to open those files .

Hi, it was not with the SP 2, the problem was with the private key, it was deleted by mistake which caused all the problem.....now it was restored and the files and folders could be decrypted.....thanks to all the suggestions given to me..... :)  :)  :)
