How combine two Win98 users into one
« on: October 12, 2005, 11:33:10 AM »
Hi I hope this is in the right place. I did a search on here and Google but cannot seem to find an answer.

I have a friends computer and they have two different user account and passwords for their Win98 system. They each have installed their own software programs and did not allow the other to access them all. They now want to combine everything into one user.

I have log ins and passwords.

Is this possible and if so how please please.

Thanks

Robert

Yup Windows 98. I did not know Win98 even allows two different log ins or allowed software to be installed "per user" but I guess so.

Anyway I go to Control Panel > User Accounts and I can delete a user but I am not sure what happens to all their person files and such. There is no merge account button.

Thoughts?

Instead of loging in what happens if you just press escape?

It just goes to the first users account is what it looks like.

And what are the entries in the My DOcuments folder?

I'm betting whoever logs in gets access to the same information. And if pressing the escape key bypasses the login altogether, that shows you how secure this system is.  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

hee yes does seem pretty secure huh?!? :)

I will need to look at the files closer but I have never run into a system like this before.

I may hand this one back and say go get a new PC. It only had about 1000 instances of spyware.

Thanks

Figures. A format and reinstall fixes a lot of Windows problems (for a while anyway)

I went ahead and deleted the second user and cleans up all the spyware and it is running like a champ now.. well for a Windows98 system on a HP computer. :P

Thanks for your help

    Use start/find and locate *.pwl

The password files will be username.pwl

Delete these files and reboot. When the logon pops up, just press the enter key. Do not enter any user name or password.
