Bad drivers after malware removal
« on: April 27, 2013, 05:53:59 PM »
An acre aspire had a lot of malware on it.  Removed it with spybot s&d and on reboot startup repair reported bad drivers. How do I delete the bad driver so it can replaced with generic ones?

What is that reporting the errors ? ?
Is that the Acer diagnostics at boot ?
Is this a laptop or desktop ?

spybot is old school and should be removed. The best malware apps are MalwareBytes and SuperAntispyware. Also, do you have an anti virus app installed? Did you run a full scan with it?

So you are running the Acer repair...those screens are not from a startup repair which is built into Windows.

That is WINDOWS startup repair saying that it can't fix the problem automatically.
I ran spybot off a cd out of laziness. ( I had it on a flash drive 10 feet away) so there are no logs.
The only malware from the long list I can remember was myweb search toolbar.
The computer is running 3 different anti viruses all junk.  And 4 "system optimizers" all will be removed if I can get it to boot again.

What Win version is this ? ?
What happens if you boot into safemode ? ?

When I boot to safe mode it loads drivers but then hangs on crcdisk.sys then I get a black screen with my arrow. I can move and that's it. None of the keys on the keyboard do anything. It is also the last driver loaded on the "ntbtlog.txt".

Sounds like a failing HDD to me...
Boot to safemode and run chkdsk /r from command prompt.

Is crcdisk.sys the same on all vista computers?  Can I copy it from a working vista installation?
