    File moving help
    « on: May 08, 2013, 04:06:54 PM »
I have an old computer that isn't hooked up to the internet. I want to put some files on it, and the only way I know how to do this is by saving them on a flash-drive and then saving them to that computer. When I plugged in the flash-drive, a window came up that said that it had to locate the hardware for the device. I clicked next and it was locating it or whatever, but then it said it couldn't find the correct hardware to open the flash-drive. It asked if I wanted to try again, and I clicked yes, but the same thing came up. Is my computer too old? Flash-drive too new? Am I doing something wrong?!?! please help!

INFO: the computer is a Dimension XPS and operates on Windows '98. This is the first time I've tried to plug in my flash-drive.

No, that can happen even with newer computers. There are variations in USB drives for external devices. Windows a library of the  the most common types.

Just try some other flash drives until you find one that it recognizes.

Did you say  the old PC runs windows 98?

You need the Unofficial Service Pack for Win98 for limited USB support...
It may have been pulled from the web due to copyrights.

I want to put some files on it,
Do you mean just for storage?  If so, why not buy an external enclosure for the hard drive in that computer, remove the hard drive from the computer, install it in the enclosure, and then you it as an external hard drive.
