Airplane mode stays on. My laptop will not connect to the internet.

I own a HP pavilion G6 laptop (would have chose something else but it was a gift so I am not complaining)

IT runs windows 8 
4GB ram and 500gb HD

Well what happened is that there is this button on my laptop that turns the internet on and off. It is the f12 key and every time I press it without holding the FN key it shuts off the internet, but I just press the button again and it will turn on the internet. It has a small light on it, blue means it will connect to the internet, red means it will not. What happened was I accidentally hit a couple of keys (f12 being one) and now the red light stays on no matter how much I press it witch means I will not be able to connect to the internet no matter what. Even if I go to Networks and turn off airplane mode it still will not connect me to the internet. I do not know how to fix that so any help will be appreciated.
