Anyone know how to get the MY COMPUTER icon back on the desktop of a Windows 98 machine? ???

Are you totally virus/worm/trojan free??

Crippling icons is a feature of one version of CoolWebSearch CWS.Control.  CWShredder coupled with SpyBot S&D should remove that CWS variant but you may have to d/l & install clean copies of Control.exe and Rundll32.exe

Please post back with any reason there might be for the My Comp icon to vanish from your desktop

Explorer, Tools, Options, Advanced "Show 'My Computer' on Desktop".

Long time since I looked at a '98 machine.
