    external hdd mailfunction
    « on: January 22, 2014, 05:33:45 AM »
hey there, so i'm having problems with it and people are saying it's beyond repairing it my self... the story goes like this: after using it without any problems at home for a long time i went in holiday for two weeks and took it with me and when i got back home it wouldn't work anymore, by that i mean the os recognizes it as a disk but it can't access it, or if i open it i just go into an empty folder.

i've tried a bunch of stuff i've read on different forums like changing the volume letter from command prompt and also tried all the software from the WD support site but some of them didn't even see the hdd. i forgot to mention that it did drop once from a chair and it hasn't been working since... yesterday i've been talking to some guys on the computerhope irc page and i came to the conclusion that i should open it to check if there's any damage i could see but everything seemed normal and the motor was working and all.

so right now now i don't know what's left to do or if there's anything to do... anyone else has some more ideas ??

First of all, whoever told you to open the hard drive to look for damage is an idiot. You do not open hard drive cases. Second, if the problem occurred after you dropped it, you need to replace it.
