What is this device exactly ( make/model )?

Some devices are auto detected and drivers austmatically installed and other times you had a disc that came with it or need to download and install the driver prior to connecting the device.

Most problems happen when attaching device before reading instructions in which Windows assumes the driver for the device and assumes wrong, as well as when a device is puchased for a system that is running an OS that is not listed as supported by the device purchased such as a Windows XP computer and a device that requires Vista/7/8 and XP is not listed etc. * But your running 7-64 bit so we will see once we get more info about the device.
