Windows ME--serious problem
« on: November 10, 2005, 06:28:53 AM »
I can no longer get windows ME to load. Here is what happens: I turn on the computer and wait for it to boot. Then I come to a screen where I can choose between RedHat 9.0 or "DOS," which is really windows. If I choose windows, it starts to load normally--the screen with the windows logo comes up and then my current wallpaper is displayed. After that, scandisk starts to run. Whether I let scandisk run or close it before it starts, this is as far as I get. Windows stops loading, and no icons or start button appears. If I try Ctrl-Alt-Del, I am able to close the tasks (about four) that are running, all of which are not responding.

Would turning the auto scan disk off do anything?

1st Windows isn't DOS...2 different things.
When did you install RedHat ? ?
It sounds as if the RedHat installation has corrupted the Windows startup files...

Read through very carefully.
