    Tips on Speeding Up Laptop

    Hey. Normally what I do to speed up my Windows 7 laptop is:
    -System Defrag
    -CCleaner
    -Msconfig(manage my startup items)
    I've recently switched to Windows 8, and it's getting slow already. The laptop's not old at all.
    Did my usual clean up, not much effect.
    Any tips on more ways to speed up my laptop?

    1) Do not us msconfig to manage startup items. Msconfig is a diagnostic utility. You should use a dedicated app such as autoruns to manage startup items.

    2) Ccleaner does NOTHING to effect system performance

    3) Exactly WHAT is slow?

      Hey, thanks for the reply.
      I used msconfig and CCleaner because I've been told so in one of the computer hope threads.  ???
      By slow, I mean apps going unresponsive, Internet Explorer restarting because webpages isn't responding, windows freezing etc.

      The other thread is wrong ;)

      I'd suggest we start by running full system scans with BOTH your installed anti virus app AND with MalwareBytes. Please let us know what the results are.

        The pups are not causing any problems but should all be deleted. But there are some trojans that almost certainly were/are causing problems. What about your AV - Do you HAVE an anti virus app installed? If so, run a full scan with it. If not, then you need to install one and probably move this thread to the malware forum for further review.

          Hey, thanks for the reply.
          I haven't got an AV installed. I used to use MSE, but I heard Windows Defender that came with windows 8 is the same thing as MSE?
          Did a full scan with it, haven't found any threats.

          You need to install an anti virus app and keep it running and updated at all times. NO - Windows Defender does not fit the bill. After installing the AV, run a full scan. I also suggest you let our malware specialist check your system. Follow the instructions in the following link and post your logs in the thread you create (NOT in this thread):

            Good Antivirus is always Important .

            The primary Issue is how to make Laptop Fast . Please increase the cache Memory of Laptop . That will certainly help you .

                I try not to keep track of Microsoft AV name changes.  I use Defender on my Win8.1 tablet because Avast seemed to slow things down too much.  8.1 comes with Defender & there is at least 1 update every day.

                In Win 8 Defender is actually MSE...leave it to MS to re-brand an item 3 times or so...

                MSE is more than adequate protection...i use it.
