    windows 10 ?
    « on: June 08, 2015, 05:23:27 AM »
I understand win 10 will be an upgrade for some but what about those who don't have a genuine copy of win 7 right now. my guess is they don't get the upgrade. right? well I am one of those people with a not genuine copy of win 7. heres why awhile back I lost my oem disk for win 7 but I still had all my keys for everything and receipts. I went to Microsoft and they sent me a replacement disk for install. when I got my disk and installed it with no problem with my key it worked perfect but when I did a sfc/scannow a few days ago it tells me I do not have a genuine copy of win 7. I asked Microsoft about it but got nowhere with them. so my question is even though I did correct by Microsoft  and having a valid key I am not going to get win 10 update for free? I hope my question makes sense and hope some one can answer

    thankyou ckch03

I fail to see why Microsoft won't help with a genuine copy, have you tried reinstalling it?  Did you actually activate it with Microsoft?  We aren't going to help with potentially pirated software.

I'd perform a clean install without running the sfc/scannow which you believe broke your key to make not genuine. And then activate the Windows 7 install, perform all updates, and then select to have your system registered for the Windows 10 upgrade in which it will download the installation media to your system to t hen be able to upgrade you in the near future.

I wouldnt move forward with a broken Windows 7 install, but instead would fix the problem by clean install with the media that you have and your key which should be genuine.

to camerongray in my post I said my product key worked just fine with the replacement disk I got from Microsoft. I am not a pirate and I am insulted by your reply. when I did a sfc/scannow a few days ago it came back to me from the sfc that my disk that Microsoft sent to me is not genuine but a copy. my key works just fine and I am legally the owner of the disk. Microsoft told me that as long as my product works my replacement disk is as good as it gets without purchasing a new product from them for 149.99. does that answer your reply. the result from the sfc/scannow tells me in the lower right hand corner I am not genuine. Microsoft could not give me any explaination

The product key is what defines if it's genuine, not the disc.  Again, did you activate Windows after installing it? With an OEM key you will probably need to manually do the phone activation - The online activation will probably fail and therefore cause it to say that it's not genuine.

This should tell you if it is genuine or not.

      1. Download this diagnostics tool MGADiag.ext and save this to your Desktop.
      2. Double-click on MGADiag.exe and click Continue

        superdave and camerongray,

I will say this one last time like I did before in my question and reply. I ACTIVATED MY WINDOWS WITH NO PROBLEM IT IS LEGAL PRODUCT KEY AND IT ACTIVATED MY WINDOW WITHOUT ANY DOUBT. I HAD A FILE PROBLEM WITH MY COMP. DID A SFC/SCANNOW AND AFTER THE SCAN I GOT A MESSAGE OF NOT BEING GENUINE. CALLED MICROSOFT MY WINDOWS IS LEGALLY ACTIVATED BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY I GET THE MESSAGE IN THE LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF MY SCREEN SAYING THIS COPY IS NOT GENUINE. THEY DO NOT KNOW. MICROSOFT WILL NOT GIVE ME ANOTHER DISK AS THEY ONLY GIVE ONE REPLACEMENT AND IF I WANT ANOTHER I WILL HAVE TO PAY 149.99. SOMEHOW SOMEWAY THERE IS AN ERROR ON MY REPLACEMENT DISK AND MICROSOFT HAS NO IDEA WHY. SO GETTING BACK TO MY QUESTION. WITH A LEGALLY ACTIVATED WIN 7 BUT HAVING A NOT GENUINE NOTICE IN MY RIGHT HAND CORNER SCREEN WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO GET WIN 10 FREE UPGRADE.?

        A. Really, we don't know. Windows 10 isn't out yet. It used to be that if you could receive Windows Updates (eg you were activated) than it would be able to upgrade to Windows 10, but they seem to have changed their approach since they originally announced that. Generally, if you get the "Get Windows 10" Notification icon, than your system can be upgraded.

I'd sort out the issue where it is showing as non-genuine, though. If Windows is still showing as activated (Right-click My PC->Properties) than it can be caused by malware, particularly given that it started after verifying system files- The "File Problem" you mention may very well have been itself caused by malware as well.

I can't tell if you actually have the replacement DVD they sent you originally, since you mention that they won't send another one (and of course you wouldn't request a second replacement if you still had the first replacement) If you do, though, that should be in the drive when you run sfc /scannow so it can replace the files it finds that are corrupted.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Question. The whole thing is about one issue. Right?
OP says the SFC program reloaded windows to not be not the areal thing.
Else whee is was reported the SFC is not right.

Why should the OP trust the SFC?

my whole reason for a new disk was I lost my original. called MS and they sent me this replacement. reason why I had to reinstall was windows update would not work at all and tried everything to fix that problem but ended in reinstall. 1 week ago I had files that just disappeared into thin air on my comp. have no idea why. thought hey maybe I have a bad virus. so I did a sfc/scannow to fix the problem that's when after the scan was finished it came back to me as not genuine. also did malaware scans antivirus came up with nothing.I called MS they checked my active account and I was good. just they cant explain why the sfc put a non genuine on my screen. ok yesterday I put a new hard drive in and reinstalled win 7 as per some of the replies I got here but guess what my windows account is active but did sfc just to make sure and it did it again. with a new hdd and clean install also telephoned my activation and now again I am stuck with a non genuine message in the screen.

If SFC is the only thing that says not genuine , just ignore it.

As I said, this has been documented.
It comes with Windows 7 Build 7601
          http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/351657-windows-7-build-7601-not-genuine-sfc-error.html

          Your windows 7 is good.

I just asked if you had activated it with Microsoft or if you had simply installed it using the key and expected to to activate automatically, you had not said this in your previous posts and this is a very easy mistake to make and would cause this issue.  Responding like that is hardly a good way to act...  ::)

Glad you got it fixed anyway...

if you look closely after sentence 4 you will clearly see that I said I called Microsoft and confirmed my product key was legal and it was good. you really need to read the lines more carefully.

thankyou and yes I got it straight now

Yes, you said you called Microsoft and they confirmed that the key was legitimate - This said nothing about activation which is done over an automated system...  Dave and I were trying to help you, no need to be totally rude to us...

                read the lines more carefully.
                Read between them more like!

Summary. The OP got thru to Microsoft and they resolved the issue.
                Problem solved.  :)
