'Raleigh Geeks' ordered to pay $455,000

A Triangle computer repair business was ordered to pay $455,000 in refunds and penalties. Raleigh Geeks has also been permanently barred from operating a computer repair business in North Carolina.

Good.  This is why I believe that there should be some sort of certification scheme that computer repair companies turning over $x a year should be required to go through.

There are far too many incompetent people out there fixing PCs - They get into the mindset of "I upgraded RAM once, therefore I can fix anything" and then fix stuff by guessing or cobbling together stuff they find online with little understanding of what they are actually doing.  Not to mention the ones out there who are blatantly scammers.

A few states require certification for local repair firms.
Sad to say, it is not yet widespread. Electrical: Yes. Electronic: No.
Example: To work on the office air condition system, certification is required.
But to install a LAN in your office, no training needed.
