External HDD files compiled into one shortcut?

My external HDD has always been connected to the pc as a drive, but now when I open the drive, I see this shortcut icon of the HDD.
Only after I open this shortcut that I get to view my files in the drive. Its really inconvenient because when I try to save files in that HDD now, somehow the shortcut icon and my files don't appear.
Can anyone help?

You probably should ask the malware section. This could be the result of a virus.
