win2k help
« on: November 10, 2005, 04:54:10 AM »
hi,

I desperately need help with the following issue:

Windows 2000 cannot start becasue the following file is missing or corrupt \winnt\system32\config\system

I have tried renaming the files as suggested but I need explicit help on how to copy the registry hive or system files back over.  In a foolproof method for STUUPID PEOPLE!!!

Tell us more or give us the link?

I assume you can get going in safe mode or with boot disks.
I appear to have a system backup file in the same directory.

    Akmeed:

SYSTEM is one of the files that makes up the Windows 2000 registry hive.

If you have not made a backup of the registry, you will have to reinstall Windows 2000.

Let us know if you need help with this.

    Blessings to you,
    Doc

    ok guys,

    I have done the following:

    cd system32\config
    ren system system.old
    ren system.alt systemalt.old

    then I tried,

    copy c:\winnt\repair\system c:\winnit\system32\config

    copy c:\winnt\repair\regback\system c:\winnt\system32\config

but files could not be copied or not found

    may Allah guide you!
