How to Synchronize Folders. Recomendation
« on: August 04, 2016, 07:06:02 AM »
From time to time the forum gets request from individuals about how to  get two folders in step with the same content. Often this is some kind of backup. But it can also a form of document sharing.

Principal source for this post us:
http://www.wikihow.com/Synchronize-Folders
-The above recommends use of tools already in Windows.
With additional info from:
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/file-folder-synchronization-freeware
- The above recommends third-party software

For some reason not clear to me the above links do not mention :
SycToy - a free Microsoft program.
It has been reported that it does notwork one windows 8 thru 10. But there is afix for this issue. See link :

Usually the main issue with the Synctoy application is caused by the version you are running because if you run an older version of the Synctoy application it will most likely have some bugs while trying to synchronize your files even though your system does work and allows your files and folders to be saved to SyncToy
My recommendation. Before trying to write your own code, either in batch or another scrip, try using some of the methods listed above. My favorite is SyncToy. But you have other good choices to save your time.  :D

Earlier on this  forum, SyncToy has often been mentioned as better than using your own homemade code.
