    Crouton on Chrome OS
    « on: December 14, 2016, 02:04:15 PM »
    I'm trying to install Linux Ubuntu on my Chromebook, but I've ran into a couple problems.
    When I enter
    Code: [Select]
    sudo enter-chroot startxfce4 into my shell(I'm using crosh's chronos shell), it runs, but immediately shows an error, then another when I click past that one.

    I installed Crouton from http://www.howtogeek.com/162120/how-to-install-ubuntu-linux-on-your-chromebook-with-crouton/, and followed the directions there, too. I did
    Code: [Select]
    sudo sh ~/Downloads/crouton -e -t xfce, then made a password and encryption passphrase when prompted.

    First error:
    Code: [Select]
    Unable to contact settings server
             //bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error: EOF in dbus-launch reading address from bus-daemon.

    Second error:
    Code: [Select]
    Unable to load a failsafe session
             Unable to determine failsafe session name. Possible causes: xfconfd isn't running(D-bus setup problem);
             environment variable $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS is set incorrectly(must include "/etc"), or xfce4 session is
             installed incorrectly.

    I've also added screenshots of the command in crosh.
