Add more search engines for Firefox
« on: February 21, 2017, 01:12:20 AM »
Firefox has s nice little box where  yu can change the search engine for a search.
Sometimes I don't want to search in Google. I want some links that are not biased by Google Ads. But even so, I still like Google most of the time.
Len's say you wound rather search using Bing instead of Google, but keep Google as the default. Ever wanted to do that quick and easy?
Here is the list for Firefox:
Add or remove a search engine in Firefox

You already know that? OK, I have a question for you.
How could I do that in Chrome? Or Internet Explorer?
Possible?   :)

For Chrome you can hit the 3 dots in the top right. Click setting. Then scroll down the the search section. There is some pre-defined search engines but also a manage search engines box.

For Internet Explorer you can go into internet options, general tab, search, then hit on the bottom find more search providers.

I did some research and check this bad boy out. First you want to  hit the 3 dots in the top right. Click setting. Then scroll down the the search section. There is some pre-defined search engines but also a manage search engines box, now you can click on that middle section and set a key word. For example i set the bing.com middle section to "bng" now when you want to search bing just type in the address bar "bng <what you want to search here>" For example. if i wanted to search bing for cat videos in the tool bar id type in "bgn super cute cat video"

Well, after all that, I just may stick with Firefox. The Fox gives me a quick  and easy way to choose. Look here at this screenshot:

This method is arguably easier and better for if it wanted to add some abstract search engine. For example i have soundcloud to come up when i type SC then search. SEE SCREENSHOT BELOW

Perhaps it is unorthodox, but if you want to search with say bing instead of google you could go to bing.com.

While i think that the concept behind your idea is good, i dont think its too user friendly. :P! Just kidding of course. Im just trying to provide a good solution for the question asked. Plus i think this is a pretty neat way to search those odd sites. I can go from youtube to searching for a friend on facebook then from my facebook friends profile back to a specific youtube page in a short amount of time. Kind of neat actually.

I like things that reduce key strokes. I don't want to wear out my keyboard.  :P
