    Things not using available bandwidth
    « on: June 22, 2017, 12:45:38 PM »
    Okay so

Some days ago,a week or so, I noticed that I wasn't able to use netflix because of too low internet connection.
I have a bad connection but it had never prevented me from watching and I could still use youtube and surf without experiencing any kind of slowness.
I also noticed that skype wasn't working because of the same reasons, then teamspeak, then online games. ( I don't think it went gradually, I just noticed it one after another.)
So I used resmon using windows + R and I saw that , even if I had available bandwidth, some things weren't using it.

Please, I need some help with this. I don't really know what info to put in so if you need something just ask me.
    I've also done this : https://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html

    Thanks for any future help.

Is the connection to the router:
    A. Ethernet cable?
    B. Wireless Wi-Fi?
    C. Something else?
An how does the router get Internet?
    1.  DSL connection over phone line?
    2.  Cable modem over cable TV?
    3.  Something else?

Your provider will have some app to measure your bandwidth.

    For Comcast:
    http://speedtest.xfinity.com/

    For AT&T:
    http://speedtest.att.com/speedtest/

For most Netflix movies, a speed of about 1.5 Mbps is alright.  :)

Could you explain what you mean by this? There is no indicator of "available" bandwidth in resource monitor; the percentages indicate the utilization of the *full speed* of the network connection. For a 300mbps wireless, that is 300mbps; for a Gigabit ethernet connection it is 1000mbps. The Internet Speed delivered by your ISP is indubitably much lower than either of these values.

It sounds like your Internet connection itself has gotten slower. use speedtest.net to check your Internet speed.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

       It is ethernet and DSL.

What I mean isn't that my internet connection has gotten slower. But That things like netflix or games or skype aren't using bandwidth. They're not working, but surfing , youtube and downloading works.

      For what it is worth...
Yes, stuff is slower tahn it used to be. All you can do is make sure your connections are all working right and after that complain to your local provider.
Netflix isamong the top streaming servies, butr it is far from optimim. Part of the problem, IMO, has to do with the whould In ternt. It is like an adolesent taht is growing too fast and its clothing does not fit anymore.

Here are some who say the Internt is not delivering the promised bandwidth..
(...sorry, I can't load the links...  tis s taking too long.)   :-[
