HELP! with Power Supply (simple question)
« on: December 07, 2005, 03:39:05 PM »
I'm new to the whole computer thing, and have a really simple question (i think).

I'm getting a new video card, NVIDIA GeForce 6600, to replace my aging card. My current power supply (250W) is no where near the capacity I need. I'm buying a 450W, will it fry my motherboard, or in any other way damage my computer??
My mother board: FIC VC19
Pentium 4 CPU 2.53GHz and 1GB of ram (nothing fancy i know)

I just want to know if my computer would work fine with a higher voltage power supply?

A 450 watt PSU will not cause any damage to your system. I would advise you though, to buy a quality PSU and not an el cheapo. A cheaply constructed PSU, regardless of its wattage rating, is a waste of money and might provide less service than the 250 you have (which you know is inadequate).

Higher wattage does not mean higher voltage, except for stability.

If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

I wish I had a 1000 Watt power supply or better still 2000 Watt.  :)
