    Redirect virus Firefox
    « on: July 16, 2017, 11:52:20 AM »
    Hello,

I installed some software from a site and after that the Firefox shortcut just disseapered from desktop and also when i searched Firefox in my program list  i am not finding it.

Still i am able to open a web page with Firefox using the open with option. After I open Firefox do some web surfing at a moment when I click on a link of a whatever page instead to open my link it sends me to some strange undesired web pages, and that is happening really often.

This is even strange because it happens only on Firefox other browsers like Edge or Chrome seems to work fine.

I am running the latest version of Firefox on a Windows 10 home edition OS. I run windows defender several times but it didn't solve the redirect issues from Firefox and didn't warned me about some malware still some other antivirus software warned me but they were not free and asked me to buy a license in order to clean the PC.

Can someone please help me with some free antivirus solutions or programs that can fix this ? Does anybody had this problem and solved it somehow ?

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

    1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
    2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
    3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
    4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
    5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
    6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
    7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

I run the tools in order that you specified, they detected the malware (avast and windows defender weren't), that is a good sign, but still I get redirected when I click on a link in Firefox.
Now also I am able to find Firefox when I search it in installed programs list and also I am seeing its shortcut on desktop and they both start Firefox when I click them, so this is a nice improvement !

Now when I get redirected the MallwareBytes tool stops the page redirection and rises a warning that an insecure connection is being made and a malicious web site was blocked.
Also after running the tools a strange home page "yeadesktop" was added to Firefox, and that strange name "yeadesktop" was found as malware by the AdwCleaner.

So it seems that the tools detected the mallware but they could not totally remove it.

Is there anything else that can be done ?

Your Avast AV is out-of-date. You should uninstall it and let Windows Defender become your AV.
      *************************************************
      Update Your Java (JRE)

Old versions of Java have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

      First Verify your Java Version

If there are any other version(s) installed then update now.

Get the new version (if needed)

If your version is out of date install the newest version of the Sun Java Runtime Environment.

Note: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Be sure to close ALL open web browsers before starting the installation.

      Remove any old versions

      1. Download JavaRa and unzip the file to your Desktop.
      2. Open JavaRA.exe and choose Remove Older Versions
      3. Once complete exit JavaRA.

Additional Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and reboot your computer.

The last thing I was doing was to run the ESET online scanner.

The browser still gets redirected but this is definitely happening less often that it was before running the cleaning tools. And the "yeadesktop" home page is still set to Firefox.
For instance if I close this "yeadesktop" web page the next time I open Firefox it automatically opens again.

I reinstalled FireFox and after that it just stopped to redirect me, I was just using it for some days to be sure that the redirect issue won't happen again !

Thank you for help and support !
