Windows 2000 Pro No start menu or desktop icons.

When I start up my computer reads: The application failed to initialize properly(10xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application. Everything on my computer works fine if I go to start a new task in task manager. But I have no start menu or desktop icons. Please Help.

Do you mean that when you click on Start, no menu appears?  If the Start menu does appear, exactly what is in the menu and what exactly what is missing from the menu that used to be there?

No what I mean is that nothing is there and it is not hidden. It's just missing. When you minimize windows they go down to the bottom of the screen as if there was a start bar, but there is no start bar. No task bar no menu no desktop icons.
