Can not edit Excel files

I have a Lenovo with Windows 7 Ultimate. I can open Excel files but I can not edit them. How can this be? The same files will open on a Windows 10 computer.
Can anyone help me fix this problem please.

what are the difference between the Win7 and Win10 PC's that could explain this situation?

like, different Office versions?
are you the creator of the spreadsheet?
what error message does Excel throw up on the Win7 PC when you try to modify the workbook - file is read-only or something?
