No, I did not make up that title and it is not a joke.

Rival competitors in the technology sector rarely collaborate. Companies traditionally focus on their own products and services in hopes of gaining so much market share that the other becomes irrelevant or ripe for acquisition.

That’s not always the case, however, as titans like Apple and Samsung have demonstrated. Expensive legal battles aside, the former for years has relied on the latter as a component supplier for its mobile devices.

The Inquirer

The say the same thing. Intel and AMD will team up to have a CPU with high performance graphics all on  the one chip.

Why am I skeptical?   :-\

Or, try Hëll has frozen over. The AMD Story is number ten.

There is also an article on Intel's website.

Now if they can just get along to standardize a socket that works for both AMD and INTEL like back in the days 20 or so years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_7

They branched off each in their own socket directions after socket 7.

It would be nice to have motherboards that could take either AMD or INTEL CPU's like years ago, however maybe they are so apples to oranges in design that its not possible.  :-\

May just keep AMD from being irrelevant...

AMD and Intel separated in terms of the physical connection because the technologies diverged such that the AMD processors ran on a different Bus architecture, thus requiring different supporting chips and different things to be supported by the chipset, differences which have only widened up to today.

Take note of this:
Quote
The H-Series CPU will is the first consumer product to take advantage of Embedded Multi-Die Interconnect Bridge (EMIB) in order to allow Intel and AMD's components work together, and is also the first mobile processor to use High Bandwith Memory 2 (HBM2). This consumes much less power and takes up less space compared to traditional discrete graphics-based designs using dedicated graphics memory.
You can also find more about this on
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-emib-interconnect-fpga-chiplet,35316.html

If thesis for real, it opens up a new world of interconnection improvements for motherboards with  multiple CPU and GPU stuff.

In theory, this means faster and better communication between chips without the need for special sockets and trace patterns on the motherboard.

No it doesn't...wishful thinking at best.

From the information published by Intel, the Embedded Interconnect is a lot faster and reduces motherboard design . The kicker is that chips that were not designed to interconnect on the silicon monolith can be tied together via the substrate. They say.

Is that not true? Or does it not make much improvement?
