Wireless card internet connection

Using win 2000 on laptop

I wanted to speed up my laptop (win 2000) and I went into msconfig and cleared out a load of stuff that I thought was rubbish. I did check against various web sites. I've since enabled everything on msconfig

Now I can't connect to the web using my wireless card, but I can if I connect the pc to the router using an ethernet cable!

I noted down the IP config details. I then tried with the WiFi card using those IP details but - still doesn't work

One thing I have noticed. When I did ipconfig when using the ethernet card I got

IP Address 192.168.1.101
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.1.1

When I did it straight after with the WiFi card I got

Autoconfiguation address 169.254.37.306
subnet mask 255.255.0.0
default gateway 0.0.0.0

Then I deleted and re-installed the WiFi card driver and I get

IP Address 0.0.0.0
subnet mask 0.0.0.0
default gateway

Can any network guru give me any hope  :-[
