News about Intel And Microsoft New Security
« on: June 01, 2018, 12:51:10 PM »
The above title is from Google for things Intel and Microsoft have done recently.
Here are the relevant items:
https://redmondmag.com/articles/2018/05/22/new-speculative-execution-patches-coming.aspx
And:
https://www.zacks.com/stock/news/304696/intel-google-amp-microsoft-discover-new-lowrisk-chip-flaws
Even Your Tube:

The threats are not new. What is new is the Intel and others are now saying users  must replace any old CPU.

This is what some Cyber Scientists had quietly said earlier. The news here is  when Microsoft Intel and others are now coming out and saying i tout loud.

What this means to you? Wait before you buy a new computer or phone,  if you worry about security. Soon all consumer IoT ** device swill have to have 'Safe CPU' to hold off the virus attacks.   :o

** IoT = Internet of Things. This will include yurt coffee port if it has Internet.

The Speculative execution bugs are ways that processes can inspect data in other processes memory. It does require being able to run machine code- I've seen claims that it can be exploited directly via javascript in a browser, for example, but that's inconsistent with the information about the exploit(s). If there is a browser exploit that allows arbitrary code execution, then it may be possible to use the exploit to gather information on the system.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

This was reported earlier this yer, but only now have Intel and Microsoft went into more depth about what is coming. Namely, new chip designs. No a fix or patch, a major design change. The design flaw is found in ARM, AMD and Intel chips.

The design flaw goes back years, maybe before 1995. {No reference  found.}

In January this year CBS News did a study that covered the major points.  The story was also done by NBC. Local TV stations also did reports.
Here is how you can find the early reports on You Tube.
Search on Bing for:
Tech firms rush to fix chip flaw.
Find TV reports from back in January of this year.
