Reboot and select proper boot device
    « on: July 07, 2018, 05:49:51 PM »
I am hoping to find help for this here, thank you in advance! So yesterday my computer froze, completely up responsive. I pressed the power button to shut off then restarted. Instead of the windows screen I am prompted with this message. “Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press key”. I’m able to get to the bios menu but all the settings seem to be correct. I can’t get to the windows screen.....any ideas?q

Sounds like the hard drive may have died or at least became corrupt to where it can no longer boot windows healthy from drive.

Do you have our system recovery media to perform a repair installation?

Assuming the hard drive is detected by BIOS when looking in there it shows it listed?

We plugged in the hard drive to another computer and removed viruses. Put it back together and it boot normally to windows. But when plugging back in again at home I now get the same message. Confused as to why this is happening....

So the Hard drive is OK.
Now it seems somehow the BIOS of our computer is not set correctly to boot from the Hard  Drive. Check you user manual.

Shot in the dark. The CMOS cell may have failed. That is the little coin size thing that keeps important start up settings in the CMOS.

If you PC is more than  two years old, you might replace it. Get one at almost any store that sells batteries. Expect to pay maybe $2 for it.

      Mark.

so the infected drive you plugged into another PC as a slave?, the master?
are you sure you got rid of all the viruses?
then you put it back in the original PC and now shows the same message?
sounds like the boot sector on it may have been creamed by that infection.
