SFC is an intrinsic part of Windows 98 - DO NOT DELETE IT!

When exactly did this problem start? Did you do anything immediately prior to it occurring?

    start/run/msinfo32
    click tools
    click system configuration utility
    click startup
look through the list and see if it is there. if so, uncheck it. reboot.
if it is not in the list, click win.ini tab. expand windows (click the +)
    look at run=
if it is there, delete it (not the entire line, just the file name)

follow above advice - DO NOT DELETE IT FROM THE SYSTEM

If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

I apologise beforehand if I've got the wrong end of the stick here but..... Madness? Are you saying that SFC is not a legitimate component of Windows 98?
I can assure you that it is.

Backdated is absolutely correct. SFC is a part of W98.

New members often dig deep for posts to answer but it does waste a lot of time.
BTW, welcome Backdated, it's good to see your quality replies to people's problems.  :)

To be honest, I never look at the threads in that much detail.

Thanks for the welcome by the way.
