    transferring digital pics to computer
    « on: May 07, 2019, 12:59:57 PM »
    good morning all,

i have an old Nikon CoolPix L18/L16 digital camera, which has not been used since 2004.
but,it still takes great pics !

my problem; can't find my owner's manual that tells me how to
transfer pics to printer to computer.

yes, i emailed Nikon, but their instructions did not work.
guess you have to be old enough to remember this camera/transfer process...   :P

is anyone THAT old (like me ) ?    ;D

    thank you.

      dear geek-9pm,

yes, i can remove SD card...
The SD card can be put in a card reader that plugs into a USB port.
Mostly likely the images are in JPG format and can be read by Windows.
They are sold at Walmart and other stores.

It's a Nikon...they will be in the NEF format...no worries though once transferred they can be converted easily...

It's a really old camera with limited storage so the photos are in JPEG format, from the manual quote"  File formats Compressed: JPEG-Baseline compliant.

If using a card reader it needs to support secure digital cards or SDcards and remember there may be some photo's in the cameras 21mb storage. To copy these you will need to attach the camera to the computer.
If you are going to remove or install the sdcard in the camera make sure it is powered off first.

      Now I am confused.  :-[

Exclusive to Nikon cameras, the NEF is Nikon's RAW file format. RAW image files, sometimes referred to as digital negatives, contain all the image information captured by the camera's sensor, along with the image's metadata

      Nikon NET format.

It's a 10+ year old camera, yes it is a Nikon but can you imagine using raw NEF format files on a camera with a 2 GB memory . So this Nikon uses Jpeg's.
