HOW TO TAKE A SCREEN SHOT

on my ancient win 7 i'd like to take a screen shot .

all the sites i tried say to press PRINT SCREEN >
TO CLIPBOARD.

i don't have CLIPBOARD.  really, i looked for it...

Every computer has a clipboard. It's where things go when you choose 'copy' or 'cut', and it's where they come from when you choose 'paste'.

Expanding on what Salmon said... Press PRINT SCREEN to take a screenshot which will put it into a special memory location called the CLIPBOARD.  Open a program capable of displaying images such as MS Paint.  Select PASTE and the screen shot will be pasted from the CLIPBOARD to MS Paint.

thank you for responding, BUT

i have NO clipboard.  i've searched twice.

i DO have Chrome which lets me copy/paste.  BUT,
it won't let me copy/paste a picture from You Tube.

i REALLY do not have a "clip board".

i use chrome's copy/print but it will NOT copy/print
c/p a picture off You Tube...

1. Open Notepad.
2. Type "Hello".
3. Highlight what you just typed.
4. Click Edit on the menu bar at the top of the Notepad window.
5. Choose Copy.
6. Open a new Notepad.
7. Click Edit on the menu bar at the top of the new Notepad window.
8. Click Paste.
9. "Hello" appears in the new Notepad window.

You just used the clipboard.

Do you mean your pc's cut and paste functionality is broken?

As I alluded to in my previous post, the CLIPBOARD is simply the name for a reserved place in memory that is used as a temporary "scratch pad" to temporarily store items during copy/paste operations.  It's not a program or an application or a location you can easily access or would find by doing a search.

if you are just looking to get a photo off youtube I love the snippet tool. look under your start menu type snippet.

I am Windows 7 too and I did not realize it's ancient, is it? Here is what I do:

1. press the "Prt Sc Sys Rq" button to the upper right of keyboard
2. use Photoshop (or MS Paint would do which is default under Start menu)
3. select File > New
4. select Edit > Paste
5. select File > Save As
