Running CCleaner. Clear Cookies. Will I lose my passwords?
    « on: June 27, 2019, 10:46:21 AM »
Hi friends, long time questions arise when running CCleaner.

A lot of ppl dont understand what "Cleaning Cookies" actually means, so I thought I would write this for those unanswered questions.

When ppl are advised to run a program like this, they, the op, ( obviously ) have a limited knowledge of a computer environment.

Running a program like CCleaner to remove cookies... Does just that... It removes the COOKIES OF ALL the sites you have visited since the last time you have run this program... or the first time its run, including the "cookie" that landed them in Computer viruses and spyware on ComputerHope .

You can find more information about cookies here

So what happens then????  The questions arise.. "Will I loose all my passwords? Can I find my favorite site again? What about my bookmarks, Do they all go away never to be found again?"

NO. These items are not deleted, just the website details/cookies of the insignificant ( & virus potential sites ) that brought you here.

You have the ability to select the cookies of sites you consider safe to visit, perhaps your Banks, Ebay, Paypal, Amazon etc. just to name a few.
You can select the ones that do not require removal by going to "Options" on the left hand side menu in CCleaner, next menu "Cookies" then an ENORMOUS list of website references will appear, & the operator has the ability to run through that list & select the ones considered "SAFE" & transfer them into a folder called "Cookies to keep" by selecting that cookie & move it to the "safe" folder by clicking on the blue arrow in the highlighted box.      ( This can be a long & arduous task if you go through the list. )

The reality is that cookies are just the computers way of saying... youve been here before, so I have a reference of where you want to be & I'll make it quicker for you to get to that site, just to make you happy.

CCleaner can delete all the website addresses, including the bad one/s, so your computer has no reference of where the crappy one was that caused your problem & the potential is, you wont "find" the webpage with any great ease.

So when your instructed to use this program  you will now have a better understanding of what your instructor is asking you to do with the confidence of knowledge.

I hope this helps ppl understand what your instructor is trying to help you achieve.

Thank you for reading my post. ImnoGuru. ;D

But for ccleaner, if you go to options and select 'cookies you want to keep' then you can whitelist cookies you don't want ccleaner to delete when cleaning.

You can also tell CCleaner to leave all cookies in your system.
