Got a new computer

plugged old SSD into an external - formatted it and set it up as a backup

but everytime I restart, if the external is on it tries to boot with it.

Checked BIOS and the boot order looks right.

I can turn the external off everytime I restart but god thats annoying.

How can I fix this??

Thanks

DaveLembke:
With hard drive higher on list vs removable drives or USB drives and it still trying to boot from USB, I would look in the USB settings in BIOS if it has advanced or legacy USB controls to see if it has options for bootable media enable/disable.

If this was an older computer I would be thinking it was a weak CMOS battery to where the BIOS was misbehaving like this to get to USB boot when hard drive is higher on the list of boot priority.

SuperDave:
Why would you want a back-up drive connected all the time? It's a back-up and should only be connected when backing up your computer otherwise, I could get infected if left connected all the time.

I need to backup automatically every night.  I may even move to backing up a couple times a day.  I need redundancy and often. Connecting and disconnecting a drive each time seems super annoying

Im ditching the external dock and getting regular external drives.  This is driving me nuts.

SuperDave:
What do you have on that external drive?
