    Is mATX dead?
    « on: September 03, 2019, 03:00:33 AM »
Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.... But it seems that mATX boards are starting to become less common than they were a few years ago... Are they dying of? If so, how come? I find it's the perfect size Imo. Most people don't need the 3+ pcie lanes atx has, but may need more options than an mITX would offer, or doesn't want to build a mid/full tower... But still wants the cooling options and room an matx case gives.

Are they just becoming a thing of the past?

mATX is still pretty common on entry-level and mid-tier chipsets. When you get to higher-end chipsets (Z390/X299 X570/X399) they become a lot more scarce because it's assumed that you're getting a board with that chipset because you need the additional PCIe lanes for something, so they'll mostly be ATX.

I'd like to have higher-end chipset in small case, I wonder how many people use more then 1 or 2 PCI-E slots. Personally I find this very annoying that it is very hard to find good mATX/iATX for high-end builds, ATX doesn't make any sense to me.
