Shortcut/Combination keys ctrl+v/c not working on wondows 7 cmd prompt

I am using a windows 7 OS and having a hard time with my cmd prompt. The combination keys ctrl+c and ctrl+v are simply not working. I  am using a lenovo laptop and have already run the sfc/scannow command yet nothing.
I have tried the traditional rightclick option on the cmd window and accessed the edit option yet nothing.
What should i do?
