Desktop won't stay connected to home network
    « on: March 27, 2020, 05:55:37 PM »
    My laptop, our iPads, iPhones and Android phone all stay connected to the internet just fine. My desktop computer however, does not even when all the other devices are connected and working fine. There's no consistency to the disconnections either. The desktop may be the only device in the household using wifi and it still disconnects. Sometimes at startup it's connected, sometimes it's not. Sometimes the desktop remains connected while I'm using it for an hour or so, and sometimes it disconnects every 15 minutes give or take some time. Here are some details;

    1. IP - Spectrum Internet, Speed is over 100+mbps download and 10mbps upload.
    2. Computer - Samsung Core I5 CPU @2.90GHz, RAM 8GB, 64-bit os x64-based processor.
    3. Windows 10 Home - version 1903
    4. Security software - all free editions
    a.CCleaner
    b. SuperAntispyware
    c. AVG
    d. Malwarebytes

I hope someone out there is willing to help, I'm happy to share more details as needed and requested.

    Regards,

Thank you for posting here at Computer hope.
You say this is a desktop computer so could you please post details of the wireless adapter you are using. Does the Wireless have a good signal like all bars lite. If not what is the wireless signal strength.
I can get all this data from a program called speccy from here https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy/download
If you run the program and select the network group could you copy the the wireless data (blank out the SSID please or just leave it out of the copy )
I have attached my wireless report as an example so you can see what I'm looking for.
Also if you select files. publish report. and copy the link to the report. this will give details of power settings and drivers which may also help.

      Hi again

Checking the report.  The thing which seems strange is the signal level although low, is not so low as to cause the very slow data rate 262 Bps this should be in the Kbps range or higher.
Is this a USB adapter? I see others have reported in forum posts  problems with  Qualcomm Atheros AR946x Wireless Network Adapter not connecting and having slow speeds.
Can you  check if the other devices are connecting at 5 GHz if so it could be interference on the 2.4 GHZ network. I would suggest trying a different adapter, try and get one which does 2.4 ghz and 5 Ghz.
