CD/DVD Drive problem

The CD/DVD drive will play anything, audio and video but will not record.  I tried to use cd burner xp which worked several years ago but no luck.   Outside of changing out that drive, is there something else I can check?

In cd burner xp  under recorder there is
Recorder Information
If you select that it will tell you if you have cd/dvd writing support and whether the drive is compatible.
You could try cleaning the DVD with a CD cleaner disk.  if that doesn't work then just replace the drive, the Laser can lose power and read but not write which is not worth repairing the laser when replacement drives are so cheap.

Are you sure you are using a writable DVD?  Sometimes it's something that simple.

I don't see the choice recorder.   I must be missing it by choosing the wrong page.
