I know I can plug an ext HDD through the USB 3 and USB C ports in the modem, but Windows 10 will only see media files. That would work if I only wanted to make a media library available to everyone at home, but what about using it to dump the backup files from every pc?

    Thanks guys

You should be able to plug your ext hdd into a usb port on your router and share it over the network in order to be able to use it as a backup location for any computer attached to the network.
