Javascripts
« on: February 13, 2006, 01:39:44 PM »
Im having problems with javascripts at the mo. To be honest I know nothing about them and don't know really what i need to tell you, but I will give you an example... when I click on a link e.g. I was looking at cars for sale before and clicked on a 'details' link, and in the bar at the bottom of the internet window it said something about javascripts but nothing happened. This keeps happening on various websites. Can you help me?

Sorry I havn't given much detail but I don't really know what to say!

Cheers  :-?

*edit* i've been into internet options and lookes at my javascript settings and everything is enabled.

You definitely need to say if the problem is with your pc running ME and/or your laptop running XP.  Then we at least will know which OS you are using.  Also would like to know if you are running I.E. or Firefox or Opera or whatever.

Thanks

Java and javascript are two completely different things, alas.

This sounds like a popup-blocker problem.  What internet security software are you running?

OK, Im on my PC, running ME. I use Norton Internet and Anti-Virus software. Internet Explorer version 6. But I am on a university network so I am firewalled to a certain extent, but have not had issues with my javascripts in the past.

Yup.  Sounds to me like Norton Internet Security is blocking javascript.  I'm afraid I can't point you in the direction of the right settings; possibly some other kind soul here can.  Otherwise, just rummage around or use the help. :)  Once you've ensured Norton is allowing javascript to run, see if the problems reoccur.

Can you disable Norton as a very quick test?

No nasty toolbars. Already tried disabling Norton, makes absolutely no difference to my problem.

Try setting IE to the defaults.

        1. Start
        2. Settings
        3. Control Panel
        4. Internet Options
        5. Security tab
        6. Reset all 4 security zones to Default

        1. Start
        2. Settings
        3. Control Panel
        4. Internet Options
        5. Privacy
        6. Restore 1 Default button

        1. Start
        2. Settings
        3. Control Panel
        4. Internet Options
        5. Advanced
        6. Restore 1 Default button

You may need to do the following as well

        1. Start
        2. Settings
        3. Control Panel
        4. Internet Options
        5. General tab
        6. Remove cookies, temporary files and history

        Kudos to Raptor.

In fact it hasn't worked but I've found something else. It's not on my internet security but on my anti-virus there is a thing called script blocking that is turned on...

Script Blocking monitors script-based viruses and alerts you of virus-like malicious behavior, stopping these viruses before they can infect your computer.

Does this control javascripts or some other sort of script.  :-?

Aye.  Sounds like it.  Try switching it off.  You don't really need it if you use a more secure browser anyway.

OK i've tried switching everything off and I'm still having problems. I can't now access electronic journals that I need for uni because the links won't work. I'm sure it's not always been like this but I havn't done anything that I know of to change the settings.

        Please please help.  :'(

OK Firefox won't work. It doesn't seem to be able to connect properly. It starts up but no websites appear!

*edit* It's OK I've sorted it. Javascripts are OK on some pages but not others...
        What does this mean?...

Error: Error in parsing value for property 'cursor'.  Declaration dropped.

If you're on a uni network, have you tried talking to their IT guys about this?  It may be that certain content is blocked or disabled before it reaches your PC.
