    Computer Doesn't Work
    « on: February 08, 2022, 05:04:42 AM »
I have an HP 500B Microtower Business PC that I was given but it doesn't work so I thought I would start by replacing the power supply.  Is that a good place to start?

No idea. What do you mean when you say it doesn't work?

When I push the start button, it will not turn on, no lights, no fans turning, no beeps or any other signs of life, just silence.  The only light that comes on is the little green light on the back of the power supply.

Well, then yes - I guess the PS would be my guess as a good starting point. But as I always recommend when you're not sure - just buy it from a company that will accept returns.

1st thing i would do with an old PC is replace the CMOS battery on the MBoard...Part # CR 2032 about the size of a nickle.
      Remove all power first...

Ok, I'll start by replacing the Cmos battery first since it is the less expensive part and if that doesn't work I will replace the power supply.  Thank you for those suggestions.
