Bing takes over
jklangen:
I have Chrome as my default browser and Google as my search engine. When I click on a URL, it goes to Bing. I just followed the virus removal steps in that forum except for security check which downloads a corrupt file. Done a bunch of searches and nothing works. Any ideas?
This is on Windows 11 Pro on a desktop.
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks for the reply but as I mentioned in my post, I have made Google my default search engine and my default browser. I have done the steps to remove Bing as a search engine in Chrome settings but it came back

This post suggests I have a browser Malware. I have used the steps in the Computer Hope malware post many times for myself and others. Just did again but Securit y Check download is flagged as unsafe and when downloaded anyway, is corrupt.
I was in IT for 25 years so not a complete rookie even though not active on this site.
Thanks,
Jim

Sorry - Just wanted to double check the basics.
Have you tried completely uninstalling chrome and reinstalling it? I don't know if that will help, but no harm in trying. As i'm sure you've already discovered, a Google search will reveal lots of suggestions to remove a browser hijacker. I'm guessing you've tried most of those already?

I uninstalled Chrome and did a repair on MS Edge. Same result. It is not a huge problem but more a worry that something has infected my system.

Jim
