Cords

Computer cords usually have this cylinder round thing around them. I would like to know what they are for. See picture, as I can not describe it any better.

    They're ferrite beads which are used to reduce interference in the signal. Interference such as when you hold your mobile phone near your speakers or near the monitor etc.
