Cant Delete
« on: March 17, 2006, 04:47:38 PM »
I’m having problem deleting something. It’s an .exe I was going to download on bit torrent. I decided not to as soon as it started, so now I have a 0 byte exe on my desktop. I think I’ve tried everything, even safe mode and it still says its being used by something. What’s going on here? :-?

Is your HARD ;D drive formatted to NTFS or FAT32? If you boot from a Win98 bootdisk, can you access your drive?

Double click "My Computer", right click "C:" and select properties.

It always amazes me how someone can set up a BT client, find the Torrents and download them (Bad move to the desktop btw) but don't know anything whatsoever about their computer.

Did you try the Killbox 'Delete on Reboot' option?

Is your Bit Torrent client still using this file?
If KillBox doesn't work (It usually does), try the Knoppix CD.

Try to right-click on the file and select Properties.  Do you get an error?  If so, what does the error say, exactly?

    LJS:

In rare circumstances, Windows 2000 and XP cannot delete files.  One example is when the file becomes corrupted and the file name has a space before or after it.  I have a file on my PC that i cannot delete, and have not taken the time to follow Microsoft's recommendations, which would take some effort.  I might try Pocket Killbox.

      A little hijacking here. :D

Has anyone tried using the 'Get my Desktop Back' button in Killbox?
I want to know if it solves 'that' problem people get from time to time.
