Zero Hour . Help plz
« on: May 25, 2006, 12:11:03 AM »
I just bought a 2nd hand laptop running windows xp home. Pentium m 1.7, 1 gig mem, 60 gig hard drive and 128mb graphics. Now the problem is that it will not allow me to play any games that require a little resourses. I tried to play Command and Conquer zero hour and it will not work. I ran a programe from the disk that looks at your system and reports back what it found. Hear is a snippet
----EASy System Summary--------------------------------------

Video Card                    : Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family
     Video Driver                  : ialmrnt5.dll
     Driver Version                : 6.14.10.3943

Sound Card                    : Realtek AC'97 Audio
     Sound Driver                  : ALCXWDM.SYS
     Driver Version                : 5.10.00.5780

     DirectX                       : DirectX 8.1
Operating System                Windows XP Service Pack 2 5.1.2600

----EASy System Output---------------------------------------

CPU Info

     CPU Count                     : 1
     CPU Type                      : 66 MHz GenuineIntel Pentium Model13 Step 6                                     6 13 6

     RAM                           : 1016 MB Total
                                     774 MB Free
Virtual RAM                   : -1648 MB Total
                                     -1798 MB Free

Operating System              : Windows XP Service Pack 2 5.1.2600

     Default Browser               : Internet Explorer
     Version                       : 6.0.2900.2180

Now im no expert but i believe there is a problem where it sais 66 MHz GenuineIntel Pentium Model13 . If i look at the system information in windows it reports a Pentium-m 1.7 Mhz

Now i thought i would throw this over to you "higher beings " in the computer world and ask if there is something that i need to do to change the settings or drivers or something ?
Please help as i have no idea what is going on and it is starting to bug me now.
Thanks in advance.

Also, Here is something that may help. When windows first starts i quickly run the programe above and it gives completley different stats. It comes back saying that all is ok. Then if i leave it for 20 seconds and run it again it sais the above , with the low stats etc. Could it be something in windows that is causing this ?

Pentium M has different speeds depending on need and power source. May want to google on that for a while.

A new processor in a laptop is never a good suggestion. They are made for what they have.

Command and conquer zero hour seems to think that my system isnt powerful enough to run the game and therefore wont start, instead it suggests i update my system before trying again.

Call of duty 2 comes up with a error message about direct x. something like "unrecovable error" and cannot continue.

Now have direct x 9 installed.

      Same problem.

Also have installed all the latest drivers for everything i could find.

      Same problem.

Call of Duty 2, it looks like your video is too crappy.

Hey Guys, Final Question. I found another laptop for sale and was wondering if it would be suitable for the above mentioned games.

          Brand = LG LS50

          Chipset is intel 915 series

          Graphics is ATI Raedon

Would games run on this with the ATI graphics card ? Or would i have the same problem with the intel 915 chipset ?
