Replace existing hard drive

I need to replace my existing hard drive with a larger drive.
How do I transfer the info. from the old drive to the new drive ?

i. set jumpers ON NEW ONE to  SL, or slave.
ii.make sure the other is master.
iii. start computer. if in windows it should turn up in my computer . then just drag and drop.

/\   what he said, but ur gonna have to format the new hd before dragging and dropping. u will find that out the second u try doing that without it being formatted.

As you want to replace your existing drive why not install the new hdd as the master, fdisk, partition, format as necessary, install the OS then copy from the old hdd which you will have made the slave :-?

Do you mean that you want to copy everything, including the OS, from your old drive to the new one, and not need to reinstall Windows?  That was my interpretation of your question, but, so far, the other 3 replies preceding mine did not seem to interpret your question that way.

If this is what you want to do, it should be possible using software provided by the hard drive manufacturer.  For example, Western Digital, which I'm most familiar with, provides their Data Lifeguard Tools software with retail drives.  If you bought an OEM drive, meaning you just get the drive, you can visit the manufacturer's web site to download the software.
