WGA Removal
« on: July 23, 2006, 10:31:38 PM »
I have WGA on my computer, and have had no problem.
But my friend, Mar, who was here twice in a previous post on this topic, does have WGA, and it says that her Windows XP copy is not valid.
The problem is that it is....

How can WGA be removed?
You cant uninstall it like the other updates, in fact, its the only Windows update that cannot be uninstalled...........

And whats this about a "Kill Switch"? Is this just a joke/rumor or is it truth?

Answers "LOL" and "MICROSOFT IS EVIL" are allowed..... As long as they contain a rant towards WGA.....

GO MICROSOFT! BOO WGA! BOO MACINTOSH/APPLE! Umm, go Linux?

The official answer has to be: if your friend believes she has a valid copy of Windows, she should phone Microsoft about this.
Only able to visit the forums sporadically, sorry.

Yes, why didn't she start out with a ring to Redmond?

?
Because it would be much more entertaining to arrive at Gate's house (by Washington Lake)

I will tell Mar to go do that.

Why bother with it?  What's the big deal about having WGA in your Add or Remove Programs list?

So, umm, Maksim, do you know how FTP works?
I would really appreciate a copy of this patch you say you have.  :D

zylstra555....... First , If you friends copy is a real XP cd and only installed on one machine  then a call to Redmond will have things fixed very quickly ........ But , if I recall your friends posts , the copy in question is also installed on her fathers machine as well ....and thats the issue .

Now as for the kill switch issue ......... This quote came out of the mouth of a MicroSoft representitive ..........
He told me that "in the fall, having the latest WGA will become mandatory and if its not installed, Windows will give a 30 day warning and when the 30 days is up and WGA isn't installed, Windows will stop working, so you might as well install WGA now."

That seems pretty clear ....... So at this time it's only a supported rumor , but when the Fall comes watch out ........ LOL
I really have no idea , why people take issue with having to phone MicroSoft ..... It's really very simple  ...... unless they are attempting to hide something .

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.
