Ex-Member bug
« on: August 04, 2006, 11:48:52 PM »
I need someone to give me very detailed information on the Ex-Member bug, and how it works, and what causes it to occur.
I am reporting this bug to YaBB right now, (and have been for about a week).
I tested the ex-member bug, but could not get it to work for me.

Could someone please explain?

It seems random. No real way to track something if you can't find a pattern. :(

      Have you seen this error?

      An Error Has Occurred!

The board field does not accept / in the query string

I think YABB is inserting extra lines of code that shouldn't be there.

There's also "Error 300: No such file or directory.". Maybe it's adding extra code that deletes the thread?

the only thing we can be almost certain about this is that SOME CODING is causing this... mabey somthing said in the last message, or just the fact that the threads are getting too large, or mabey computer hopes forum unravling around us.. are the letters going to start falling off the page? is this the beginning of the end of computer hope as we know it!?

YaBB bug fix member asks the following
"Before we go on, do you run the distro package or the CVS package ?
Reason for asking is that the distro still has this bug, but as far as I know this was solved in the CVS package long ago.
I'm not sure there was a patch released to fix this for non CVS users though."

Does anyone know what we have here?

What?  So they know how to fix it, but are still making a buggy version available and are calling it the "stable" version?!

BTW, I think it's pretty obvious which version we're using...

Well, you see, this person said they were not sure if it was fixed or not.
(Its very possible that they didn't know how to fix it, or that there is more than one version of the bug)
And I KNOW that there is more than one version of the bug.

YaBB is rather embarrassing then, isn't it?  There are better alternatives.  I vote for transferring the lot to an SMF forum.

How about vBulletin? It seems every other forum I've been on uses it, and they're pretty stable.

Why do that an loose every account and message on this forum?
Besides, YaBB is the second most downloaded forum software available.
What on earth makes you all think that others wouldn't have bugs of their own?

              True, but it isn't free.

You wouldn't - the data can be migrated to the new forum.

According to whose figures?  Besides, MS have the most used OSes out there, but that doesn't make them the best, not by any means.

A little thing called experience...  Not, not bug-free, but the bugs that exist are less prevalent, and far less irritating.
