How about vBulletin? It seems every other forum I've been on uses it, and they're pretty stable.
    True, but it isn't free.

I paid for Windows ME and got a whole heap of trouble.  I didn't pay for Ubuntu Linux and didn't get a whole heap of trouble.  So I guess you don't get what you don't pay for...

          Rob:
I read your post. I guess you have a lot of great points. I really thought that member setup was just stuck the way it was, I had no idea that they could be transferred. (It sounds like a painful process)

The only other forum I have used that I really liked was, I think it was, SMF. Oh, just checked, it was Invision.

the statistics of the most downloaded forum software came from something I was reading. (Though I cant remember what) If I find it, I will tell you.

SMF generally has a wider, more up to date feature set (from the users' point of view) than phpBB.  But they are both sound choices, and I have not seen as many bugs on a phpBB forum as we get here on YaBB.

Well, we all also have to look at the features as well...
Although this forum is buggy, it does have many features that are worth of suffering the bugs.
In fact, almost EVERY bug can be fixed if you have access to the Admin Panel.
But, Nathan seems to no longer be here, so he cannot fix the errors.

We could benefit from having a second Admin, one that's here more often.

              Besides, then we can say:

"Always two Admins there are. No more, no less"

I've asked before, but... what DOES Nathan do? Is Computer Hope a company he runs?
