Ethereal......... Do you have any sort of anti virus installed and running ?
Is this a self build or store bought ?
Is there any message displayed , before it shuts down?
Does it appear to be running hot ?

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

With only 2 days invested in it I would SERIOUSLY be considering a return.  ;)

Oh, a self build. Well we are stuck working our way though this then.

Does this happen during gaming or other strenuous activity only?

    What make power supply?

Have you tested the RAM (www.memtest86.com). If you do this you may need to disconnect all of the drives, add on cards, etc. to keep it running.

Did you check Event Viewer error logs?

You said it was new, then it was a self built. How about all the details on this poor machine? Does it have a genuine XP on it? SP2 and all updates?

Well , your machine looks to be ok , but why on earth wouldn't you have insisted on a real O/S instead of a pirated one ?  Thats just asking for issues .

A counterfeit XP and it doesn't run? How unusual.

www.memtest86.com allows you to download a file and create a bootable floppy or a bootable CD. Just boot with that in there and run the test on each RAM for an hour or so, then all together.

Here's some info on Event Viewer from the company you pirated the software from:

      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/

Did you check your temps? How about removing a side panel and blowing a fan directly in there?

      Here's some good reading:

You're looking for the reason the machine shut down, if it is shown. Just read:

        This is like herding cats.

        1) Test your RAM.
        2) Try the fan on the open case.
        3) Disable Auto Reboot on System Failure & check your Event Viewer.

        Let us know... ::)
