desktop error

  every time i close down internet, my desktop reverts too the old white screen.  giving me the option to restore, which it does....but.......i cannot start ie again.  i have tried every kind of cure, but nothing helps.

I had that problem a few times when I would install certian backgrounds on my desktop. Especially backgrounds that I downloaded. Try using a simple background and see if that helps.
