    Can't you just boot the computer to some sort of emergency repair disk and edit your registry from there, putting it back to the way it was?
    Of course you would have to find a free one that had the offline editing capability.
    It all sounds easy if you say it fast. :D

    As for the registry backup info, again, I appreciate the info regarding registry backup procedure, but at the moment I think it may be a moot point. Just the same, thanks. I’ll refer to this in the future. :)

    That said, I may have a good version of the registry on the new or old hard drive. I’m not clear on precisely what files comprise the registry in XP, so I don’t know how to effectively replace a bad version with a good version.

    I’m also curious if there is any way to use any of the numerous windows restore points to manually fix windows.
